Yes. I was rash in my attempt to understand what it is that binds souls to this place, what brings them back, and the entire manor was punished as a result.
But I found Daisy, through it all. She told me she does not believe the fire to have been an accident.
I would say she is less bound to house and more to the grounds themselves, aligned with both Death and Life, as she oversees the process of resurrection and the restoration of one's soul to one's body. Alas, she didn't have anything else to say — just the hunch.
I suppose that the obvious assumption is that our own souls are likewise tied to the house or grounds in some way. It would explain why we're here and why we apparently can't be allowed to die.
That is correct. Our souls remain trapped within the boundary the house sets for us, hence Daisy's ability to facilitate their return so long as the body is buried.
I believe our arsonist means for the best, but I also worry what will happen if we truly are freed from this place. If the boundary no longer exists, death, I presume, would become a finality.
I've been trying to make contact with the entity within the library. I asked if it was in need of anything, it suggested that it was looking for a soul of some kind. Perhaps its own. I wonder if it's connected to Daisy in some way, or if the house has multiple spirits within it.
There was one other spirit discovered some months ago — the Mesial, I believe, though their domain appeared to be associated with the natural world. It would stand to reason that there could be others we have yet to discover.
[ Give him a few minutes to walk back to his tent and hunt down the items in question. ]
When I asked if it required any help, it gave me a book and directed me to a certain passage where the romantic hero decries the loss of his love, who he associates with his very soul. I assumed that was the important part. When I asked if we could help restore the entity's soul, it sent me this.
Thank you, Giles. I will confer with Daisy, if perhaps you would not mind doing the same with the Library as to whether or not it seeks Daisy's help or involvement.
